What is an Emotional Support Animal?

An emotional support animal (ESA) is an animal that provides comfort and companionship to individuals facing emotional or psychological challenges. Unlike service animals, ESAs do not require specialized training to perform tasks, however, they do play a vital role in alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Their presence can help reduce stress, enhance mood, and provide a sense of safety and security, making everyday more manageable for those in need. Overall, emotional support animals contribute significantly to their owners' emotional well-being and quality of life.

Request an evaluation today!

1. Familiarize yourself with HUDS rules regarding assistance animals. You can find more information here.

2. You must already own your animal prior to receiving an emotional support letter. You are responsible for the care and training of your animal. While ESAs do NOT require special training, I do recommend you train them in basic manners to avoid situations that will likely void your right to an ESA such as damage to property, aggression, or nuisance behaviors.

3. Fill out the prescreening form to the right.

Within 24 hours I will reach out to you to let you know if an evaluation is appropriate and, if so, schedule your appointment.

4. Payment is due by the beginning of your appointment.  When you are scheduled for your evaluation appointment, you will receive a link to pay. You will have until the time of your evaluation to make your payment. If payment is not received, the evaluation will need to be rescheduled or cancelled.

5. THAT'S IT! Within 24 hours of your appointment, you will receive your ESA letter along with other relevant treatment recommendations.
